Our first recipient, seventh grader Coleman P., participates on the Live Oak cross country team this year. Coleman was interviewed and asked about his thoughts on academics and athletics. Here were his responses:
Q: Ano ang isang bagay na natutunan mo mula sa alinman sa athletics o akademya at nagawa mong ilapat sa kabilang larangan?
A: Something I learned from athletics that I apply to academics is to be open to new concepts. As a soccer player, my team is constantly adapting our strategies to be able to work better together. I have to be open and flexible, and this can apply to writing, reading, or math.
Q: Ano ang paborito mong subject?
A: My favorite school subject will change from time to time, but currently, the subject I enjoy most is science. We are learning a lot about the earth and I enjoy that.
Q: Mayroon ka bang modelong pang-akademiko o atleta? Kung gayon, sino ito at bakit?
A: My athletic role model would probably be Lionel Messi, because of all the challenges that he faced being a shorter than average player.
Our second recipient, eighth grader Kyelle G., participates on the Live Oak volleyball team this year. Kyelle was also interviewed on some of these same topics and here were her responses:
Q: Ano ang pagkakatulad ng akademiko at athletics?
A: I think that something that is similar between academics and athletics is that they both take skill, but you can also practice both of them and get better.
Q: Nakikita mo ba ang iyong sarili na nagtatrabaho nang pantay-pantay sa parehong athletics at academics? Kung hindi, alin ang mas pinaghirapan mo?
A: I think I work equally in both academics and athletics, but I obviously have more fun in athletics.
Q: Ano ang paborito mong isport?
A: My favorite sport to play is probably soccer, because I’ve been playing soccer since kindergarten, but I also do enjoy volleyball a lot.
