A Feast of Colors

By: José Trujillo and Mario Martinez-Muñoz, Lower School Art Teachers
Fourth grade artists engaged in a multi-step project that combined artistic expression with cultural exploration.
First, we curated a menu of diverse food from around the world. Following this, each artist spun a wheel to determine their assigned dish. The artist then received small photographs of their food and enlarged them, utilizing various watercolor techniques to recreate the images in a larger format. Through shading and attention to detail, they aimed to capture the essence and realism of the original photograph. We invited families to experience the depicted foods by extending the learning beyond the classroom. This created a bridge between art, culture, and community. Moving forward, our next step involves looking into the history of each dish, to deepen our understanding of our mouthwatering masterpieces.

Check out how the art curriculum integrates with our students' other academic areas to support an expressive, well-rounded learning experience.
