ICYMI: Heads’ Space Follow-Up & Resources
Live Oak School hosted a K–8 parent and guardian enrichment event rooted in discussion of how we collaboratively support our children meeting high expectations, while also identifying the specific skills that we need to support in the work of meeting their full potential. Participants built connections with one another, reflecting on the strengths and challenges that shape our children’s development, while also identifying our own areas of challenge and skill development that can sometimes get in the way of providing the support for our students in the way we envision and deeply value. Through a guided skills assessment process, families identified areas where their children could continue to grow and connected those skills to unmet expectations they may experience at home or in school. Participants also considered specific ways they can provide tangible, more focused support, by sharing concrete and shared language in identifying these skills–some we might not always consider when potential is not fully being achieved.
As we prepare for part two of this conversation on October 14 from 8:30-9:30am at 195 De Haro Street, parents and guardians are also encouraged to join us in reading “Changeable: How Collaborative Problem Solving Changes Lives at Home, at School, and at Work” by J.
