Winter Sports Student-Athlete Spotlight

Live Oak recently recognized two student-athletes with the Winter Sports Student-Athlete Spotlight. Eighth grader Wheeler M., who participated on the Live Oak cross country and basketball teams this year, and seventh grader Ailey S., who ran cross country and played basketball, were recognized for their hard work and leadership skills in the classroom and in athletics.
Wheeler was interviewed and asked about his thoughts on academics and athletics. Here were his responses:

Q: Ano ang pagkakatulad ng akademiko at athletics?

A: Something similar between athletics and academics is that you are always trying to get better and learn new strategies/tactics to do well in the test/game.

A: One thing I was able to apply from both to the other one was hard work. If you work hard in athletics/academics, you can be really good and make a lot of progress fast.

A: I work the hardest at activities that I have an intellectual curiosity in. I feel that I have that in my academics and athletics but slightly more in athletics.

Q: Ano ang paborito mong isport?

A: Soccer. I play it on a club team and it’s just a joy to play.

Q: Ano ang paborito mong subject?

A: P.E. I really like it because there are so many activities that we do and you don’t have to be good at them to have fun.

Ailey was also interviewed on some of these same topics and here were her responses:

Q: Ano ang pagkakatulad ng akademiko at athletics?

A: I think the similarities between academics and athletics is that you have to work hard to achieve your goals and improve.

A: For me, I think I work equally between both academics and athletics but I care more about the outcome of my academic grades.

Q: Ano ang paborito mong isport?

A: Basketball is my favorite sport because I can focus on many things at once and construct different skills throughout time. I am a big basketball fan and I worship the team's contribution and effort.

The aim of Live Oak's athletics program is to strengthen teamwork and sportsmanship, while helping give students a variety of opportunities to challenge themselves throughout their Live Oak education.
